To enter Quito's markets, a COVID-19 vaccination card or certificate must be presented.
It is one of the measures implemented by the Municipality to reduce the risk of contagion in the commercialization centers.

In the Metropolitan District of Quito there are 54 markets and free fairs. Since January 4, 2022, a COVID-19 vaccination document is required to enter these supply centers.
In order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, people entering the 54 markets of Quito must present the card or certificate of vaccination against COVID-19.
The District Trade Coordination Agency of the Municipality reiterated to users the permanent use of the mask.
It is worth remembering that the ID card is the physical document obtained at the time of receiving the vaccine; while the certificate is a digital file that has a QR Code.

According to the resolutions of the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE), a 75% capacity is allowed in the country's markets. The vaccination document requirement applies to people over 12 years old.

In the last two weeks positive patients with COVID-19 have increased in Quito. According to the Ministry of Health, up to January 6, 189,600 confirmed cases were registered in the capital. In addition, health authorities and epidemiological experts warn that infections will increase in the following weeks, as a consequence of the end of the year festivities.
Classes suspended for a week in public schools due to vaccination
During a virtual meeting, the National EOC announced new resolutions due to the advance of the pandemic and the spread of covid-19 among children in Ecuador.
On January 12th, 2022 Vaccination Card will be required for land travel:
The Plenary of the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) resolved to suspend classes for public educational institutions that have approved their Educational Continuity Plan (PICE) from January 10 to 16, 2022 to vaccinate students against covid-19 from five years of age onwards.
This was announced by the Minister of Education, Maria Brown, this Friday, January 7, 2022 in a virtual press conference.
This week of suspension of classes "is not a vacation week", stressed Brown. For this reason, during this period, children's games will not operate inside premises and massive events.
From January 8, the covid-19 vaccination card with two doses will be requested for children from five years of age to access non-essential services and activities such as:
  1. Private children's and youth entertainment services.
  2. Shows such as theaters, cinemas, circuses and stadiums.
  3. Shopping malls, among others.
Likewise, an exhortation is made to postpone sports competitions for students or other planned events during this week. The community is asked for a voluntary preventive isolation.
With these provisions, the return to classes for public educational institutions with approved PICE will resume on January 17, 2022 at all levels on all five days of the week, provided that they comply with the following parameters:
Educational institutions that have 85% or more of students vaccinated with two doses: 2.25 square meters of area per person to calculate the maximum capacity allowed. Voluntary attendance in person. Implementation of biosecurity measures.
Institutions with less than 85% of students vaccinated with two doses: Maximum capacity of 50% of the number of enrolled students attending simultaneously to the EI can organize alternate schedules so that all students can attend in person with biosecurity measures.
For the Costa-Galapagos Regime, the end of the school year ends on March 11, 2022. Teachers' vacations will be from April 2 to April 20 and activities for the 2022-2023 period will begin on May 6, 2022.
For the Sierra-Amazon Regime the end of the first quarter ends on February 4. The second quarter begins on February 7 and ends on July 5, 2022. Teachers will have vacation from July 23 to August 14. Activities for the period 2022-2023 will begin on September 1, 2022.
The suspended week of classes will be made up at the end of the school year.
Private Institutions
In the case of private and public schools for both the Coast-Galapagos and Highlands-Amazon Regime will have three options during the next week:
To adhere to the educational schedule that will be implemented in public educational institutions due to the emergency (week without classes).
Maintain the current educational schedule as long as they comply with the Law (200 days of classes) during the week of January 10 to 15, they will be able to take classes virtually (100% virtual classes); or
In a semi-present manner in a capacity of 2.25 square meters of area per person, with face-to-face attendance only for vaccinated students with the complete vaccination schedule and for teachers with the complete vaccination schedule, including the third dose.
These institutions must communicate to the students' families which option they choose.
Third dose for teachers
As of this Friday, January 7, teachers may be inoculated with the third dose of the vaccine against covid-19 provided that five months have elapsed since the second dose was administered.
Contagions in students and teachers
Minister Brown indicated that as of January 7, there are 94 students and 384 teachers infected with covid-19 who have attended the course. However, she emphasized that these infections increased after the December holidays, but not because of the on-site classes.
